Happy 2025!

Happy New Year, everybody!

Before we finish off the last of the eggnog and fully dive into 2025, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate what an amazingly fun year 2024 has been—packed with adventures, exciting new additions, and, of course, tons of young scientists eager to explore the fascinating world of entomology!

In fact, our bugs visited kids and families at:

  • 60+ libraries

  • 30+ schools (including elementary schools, preschools, private schools, and homeschool groups)

  • 15+ organizations and public events (museums, community centers, and family shelters)

  • 10+ private parties and events

  • Over 2,500 kids inspired, educated, and engaged in the scientific world of entomology!

While it’s hard to pick a single favorite moment from the year, I’ll never forget those audience members who came armed with incredible science questions, or the ones who overcame their fear to pet their very first bug. Seeing grown-ups dive in with just as much excitement as the kids was also a highlight!

New arthropods also joined our family this year, including:

  • Eastern Hercules Beetle – Enormous beetles and grubs native to the U.S.

  • African Stick Mantis – Stealthy predators, also known as the cat-eye mantis

  • Eastern Lubber Grasshopper – A stunning example of nature's warning colors

  • Vampire Crab – Vibrant freshwater crustaceans

  • Giant Prickly Australian Stick Insect – My personal favorite addition of the year!

We also piloted and implemented exciting new programs and features, such as:

  • Adult programs

  • After-school programs

  • Games and activities

  • Microscopy and audiovisual demonstrations

Of course, none of this would have been possible without you—the incredible communities we visit. Every librarian, teacher, parent, bug enthusiast, and even those who are initially terrified but still give curiosity a chance, you are the ones who keep the arthropod express running. It’s truly a privilege to connect with so many amazing people across Massachusetts and beyond all for the love of bugs, nature, and science.

Thank you for making 2024 such an incredible year! I can’t wait to see even more of you in 2025. The year has only just begun, and there’s still plenty of opportunities to book your programs. If you’d like to bring science, learning, excitement, and, of course, tons of cool bugs to your community, call or email us today!

Stay tuned—there are even more critters, programs, and deals coming your way this year. Here’s to another year of adventure, discovery, and amazing bugs!
